The Story Behind the Stories

I find myself telling my daughter the same few stories over and over. Not because they're particularly wonderful, but because so many children's stories feel... predictable. The same plots, the same lessons, nothing that feels genuinely engaging or surprising.

As someone who loves building things, I started wondering: what if we could create storytellers with completely different perspectives? Like Millie Threadweaver, who finds magic in everyday objects – a button, a teacup, a forgotten sock. Or characters from possible futures who might tell stories we'd never think of ourselves.

Tiny Story Mill is my experiment in creating genuinely interesting stories that are fun to read. Some find wonder in the ordinary, others explore what's possible. All of them aim to surprise and delight both children and the adults reading to them.

Why It Matters

Reading to your child should be a joy, not a chore. When stories are engaging and surprising, those bedtime moments become something you both look forward to. There's nothing quite like seeing a child's eyes light up at an unexpected turn in a tale.

Every storyteller here has their own way of seeing the world. Millie finds magic in the mundane – turning a lost button into an adventure. Others might take your child to distant planets or introduce them to friendly robots. The goal is always the same: stories that captivate and delight.

How It Works

Choose a storyteller, add what your child loves right now – animals, colours, their favourite toy – and get a personalised story crafted just for them. Each character brings their own magic to whatever interests your little one.

Millie might discover that your child's red sock has been on a secret adventure under the sofa. Another storyteller might weave their love of dinosaurs into a tale about time-travelling paleontologists. Every story is yours to keep and read as often as they ask for "that one again!"

Looking Forward

Every time someone creates a story, I discover something new about what's possible. Sometimes the tales surprise me with their warmth, other times with unexpected turns I never would have thought of. It's fascinating to see how different storytellers interpret the same simple prompt.

If you end up trying it out and your child has a favourite story – or if something makes you both laugh – I'd love to hear about it. These little moments of joy are exactly what this whole thing is about.
